LBB valdes vēlēšanas

Pavisam drīz noslēgsies pašreizējās LBB valdes pilnvaru termiņš, kas kopumā ilga trīs gadus. 24. aprīlī, kad notiks LBB 12. kongress, tiks ievēlēta jauna valde astoņu locekļu sastāvā. Gatavojoties vēlēšanām, esam pārskatījuši principus, kā tiek organizētas valdes vēlēšanas, un 6. marta valdes sēdē apstiprinājām nolikumu, kurā aprakstīta LBB valdes vēlēšanu kārtība.

Jaunajā vēlēšanu kārtībā ir vairāki būtiski jauninājumi:

  • Ieviests reģionālās pārstāvniecības princips – proporcionāli biedru skaitam reģionā noteikts, ka jaunajā valdē uz trim vietām varēs kandidēt Rīgas un Pierīgas reģiona pārstāvji, uz divām vietām – Vidzemes reģiona pārstāvji un uz atlikušajām trīs vietām – Kurzemes, Zemgales un Latgales reģiona pārstāvji, katram reģionam atvēlot vienu vietu;
  • Ikviens biedrs var pieteikt savu kandidatūru jaunajai valdei, nosūtot pieteikumu sava reģiona pārstāvim – LBB reģionālās nodaļas vadītājam vai Rīgas un Pierīgas gadījumā valdes loceklei Daigai Orbidānei;
  • Reģionu pārstāvji uz katru locekļa vietu valdē var izvirzīt divus kandidātus;
  • Radīta iespēja valdes vēlēšanās piedalīties arī institucionālajiem biedriem – balsu skaits noteikts proporcionāli darbinieku skaitam bibliotēkā, par katriem 10 darbiniekiem piešķirot vienu balsi;
  • Radīta iespēja balsot arī tiem LBB biedriem, kas klātienē nevar piedalīties kongresā, nododot pilnvaru citam biedram, kas piedalīsies kongresā;

Biblicamp 3 – Library in 2035

2016. gada vasarā LBB JSS vadītāja Elīna Sniedze piedalījās Igaunijas bibliotekāru biedrības Jauno speciālistu kluba veidotajā nometnē – Biblicamp.

The ELA Young Professionals Club held its third summer camp at The Police and Border Guard College of Estonian Academy of Security Sciences at Muraste.

The library in its different forms has been experiencing changes for a very long time. The first libraries emerged as the collections of different government, economic and other important documents at the time when people felt the need to acknowledge themselves. This need has persisted, but the role of the libraries has changed a lot through time and it will certainly continue to change. A contemporary library is definitely a memory institution in a traditional sense, but it is also a learning and activity center and serves as a community and cultural center. The library can also be in a digital environment, its existence isn’t dependent on the physical space.

Mindmap created as a result of Biblicamp.

The goal of the last year’s ELA Young Professionals Club summer camp, “BibliCamp 3 – Library in 2035”, was to get acquainted with the vision document of Estonian libraries and to think without limits about future libraries. We wanted to create a Utopian vision about the services of the future library, the skills of a future librarian, and the physical and digital space of the library.

Services of the future library

As emerged from our discussions, the keywords of the future library are availability and convenience in a broad sense. The first thing we think about regarding the services of the library are borrowing and returning. In bigger libraries, it is common that in addition to borrowing and returning books via a librarian one can also use self-service machines. This makes the main service of the library easy and fast for the readers, while they maintain the freedom to choose. We can assume that machines are here to stay and their development will continue. This means that the library’s borrowing process will become more automated and the responsibility for properly borrowed books is greatly placed on the reader.

Keeping in mind the usability and usage purposes, we could implement special bar code scanners that the readers can carry with them and use to borrow the wanted book at a suitable time and place. Later, when the reader returns the scanner and exits the library, the system would check the borrowings. Security gates would notify of any problems.

We have changed the rules of the project to give an opportunity to more than one person per country. All the applicants were accepted as the authors. There was a huge interest from several countries as more than one librarian applied for the project, so we decided to create an author teams for these countries.

librarians-around-the-world-4

We are very happy that our project “Librarians Around the World” is considered to be inspiring, useful and seems that together we will create this project even more awesome and it will have an impact for the future. We have received many applications from the countries that we thought is impossible to reach. But now we believe that impossible is possible!

NB! As we have received also more than one application from the same country and we want to accept as many people as we can, we have changed the rules and there will be more than one participant selected from each country. We see that librarians are willing to share their stories. To create the quality for the articles we will create author teams for each country – every author will have to write their own experience and problems or success stories, but together the team of the authors will create article about their country – library system, education opportunities, qualification rules, library associations.

If you haven’t heard what this project is about, please read the information below and join!

New Professionals Section of Latvian Librarian Association (LBB JSS) kindly invite you to participate in our ongoing online project “Librarians Around the World” where we want participants to create article about their study and work experience, about the library system, association in their country or some interesting projects that they have, even about problems that they have (no funding for library, expensive studies, struggle to find work, etc.).!

The aim of project is to promote librarian profession and to create article series in our blog about librarians, library systems and education in different countries to educate students and librarians about libraries around the World. To tell high school students about librarian profession, to tell government about our problems, to make the world see that there are lots of awesome librarians out there. To show that we read (but not only!), do researches, attend conferences, create awesome projects, also that we have parties and that sometimes one librarian has to be as an orchestra – to manage and do everything – create events, catalogue books, buy new books, research, design, sing, dance, act, etc.

Let’s show the world that there are libraries and we need them!

What to do to participate:

  1. E-mail lbbjss@gmail.com that you are willing to participate until Thursday -13.02.2017. (update – There will be more than one participant selected from each country. We will create teams for each country.). Participants will get a certificate of participation. Authors notification and guidelines about the article will be sent on Tuesday – 14.02.2017.
  2. Authors will have to write an article about themselves, their projects, library system and education opportunities in their country until 15.03.2017. (Length of the article is not limited, but at least 500 words would be nice) and add photos. Articles will be published in English and Latvian in our blog. If there will be at least 10-15 participants we will create an online article collection and it will be sent to authors, students and librarians as pdf file.

If you are not willing to participate, please feel free to pass this information to your colleagues who might be interested.

Best wishes,
